Rooted in the history of Smith Lake, Crossing the Ford is designed around a unique geographic feature: an original 'ford' where vehicles once traversed the water during low tide. This historical crossing point became the anchor for the home's concept, dictating a design that deeply respects the shoreline.
The residence is deconstructed into a series of distinct 'pods' that hug the topography and cantilever over the cliff's edge, minimizing the footprint while maximizing views. By blurring the boundary between interior and exterior, the design creates a rhythm of spaces, balancing communal areas for family gatherings with quiet, detached retreats that offer solitude amidst the trees.
