Historic Renovation & Addition
Situated in Huntsville’s Twickenham Historic District, the Nicholson Hinds House (c. 1904) revitalizes a derelict Folk Victorian Villa into a dialogue between preservation and progression. As the district’s first approved 'modern interpretation,' the project reinterprets stringent heritage guidelines to strictly preserve the original street frontage while introducing a contemporary 1.5-story rear addition connected by a transparent glass link.
Distinguished by a refined material palette, including reclaimed brick, aluminum dormer shrouds, sliding louvre shutters, and oversized shiplap, the new volume complements the historic scale without mimicking it. This approach allows the addition to appear visually 'detached,' inviting curiosity while ensuring the 120-year-old structure remains the primary focal point as it is reimagined for modern utility.
