Set on a generous lot in Savannah’s Oakdale neighborhood, an area known for its mid-century and ranch-style homes, 6ZERO2 is a restrained yet transformative reimagining of a 1980s residence. Long unoccupied and shaped by decades of incremental alterations, the house had begun to drift from its original identity. We saw the potential to not only restore its clarity, but elevate it.
Before our acquisition, we learned through the daughter of the previous owner that the house had once been shortlisted for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in the early 2000s; a footnote that hinted at the home’s layered history and emotional resonance within the community.
Our approach was to refine the home to its essence removing visual clutter, reconnecting interior volumes, and establishing a new architectural rhythm rooted in mid-century ideals. The revised plan includes four bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms across two floors, reconfigured to better support contemporary living. An open-plan arrangement encourages seamless continuity between spaces, while deliberate connections to the outdoors foster a stronger relationship with the site.
Natural light is harnessed through new and carefully placed openings, bringing warmth and clarity to the interiors. A quiet palette of natural woods, matte black detailing, and refined plaster surfaces lends a grounded elegance, while custom millwork and integrated storage speak to the value of utility and craft. The kitchen, conceived as the heart of the home, is both sculptural and pragmatic, anchored by monolithic countertops and framed by clean-lined cabinetry.
Externally, the transformation is subtle but intentional with cleaner rooflines, new entry sequences, and a stronger material continuity creating a more cohesive expression, respecting the home’s origins while introducing contemporary clarity.
6ZERO2 is not an attempt to mimic the past, but a dialogue with it, offering a contemporary reinterpretation that respects the architectural language of its neighborhood, while carving out something distinctly its own.
